The cover of Kösel's Innoflex FD 351 consist of a 1-part 300–450 g/m² cardboard (depending on requirement), in two layers one on top of the other. The flexibility of the cover is possible as the two layers can move against each other. The cover is stiff in one direction and therefore capable of supporting large and heavy book blocks, but is nevertheless still flexible in the bending direction.

The joint is burned-in at the transition between the 2-layered front and back cover and the single-layer spine. This results in a very good opening behaviour. The FD 350 is another version of this flexible cover without burned-in joint.
